Professional, Caring, Inclusive; Yoga For Everyone

Devon Mental Health Alliance, E.W, Recovery Practitioner - North Devon

Jeanine is an amazing practitioner. She has such empathy and compassion for the people that she works with and is incredibly flexible in her approach to meeting the needs of her clients. As a mental health recovery practitioner, I cannot over state how grateful I am for having met Jeanine. She offers a sensitive, person-centered practice and is always willing to go the extra mile to embody the loving ethos that she promotes.

Barnstaple Alliance Primary Care, J.T, Wellbeing Linkworker

I have sent a number of my patients to Jeanine for her chair yoga sessions and every one has responded positively to them and have been happy to continue the full course. They have found the sessions comfortably challenging but accessible and although they have enjoyed the workout, they have been able to do them at their own pace and within their limits without feeling overwhelmed or pushed. Jeanine is a calming and welcoming person and this has made people feel relaxed and encouraged before and during the sessions. She has made contact if needed prior to starting which has been helpful and people have made connections during the sessions which has been an added bonus. This has then given people confidence to pursue other activities as well as improving their physical health. Thank you Jeanine!

J.C, HOPE Coordinator, Barnstaple HOPE Program

On behalf of the Barnstaple HOPE Programme, for people living with Fibromyalgia, I wanted to say a very big thank you for coming to our group yesterday and providing us with a sample session of your chair-based yoga. We all found the yoga very relaxing, even those who suffer with chronic joint pain managed to take part. Your explanation of the yoga moves, and what not to do if it hurt, was really positive. We all wish you well and hope to be at one of your classes in the near future.

A.S, Age Concern, Barnstaple & North Devon

Dear Jeanine, On behalf of the Rainbow Club Members and Linda, I would like to thank you for a most enjoyable afternoon. All the members thoroughly enjoyed your company and presentation, so thank you so much.

Jeanine came to a client I look after, MC looked forward to seeing Jeanine and found the sessions very helpful especially using parts of her body that she has not been able to use and gaining a lot more strength. I also joined in with the sessions and found them helpful in relieving tension in my arms and back also very relaxing. Jeanine also gave MC a hand massage which she really enjoyed. I highly recommend Jeanine.

Jeanine is a warm and friendly yoga teacher. She understands my needs and adapts the poses to match my abilities. Her lessons involve careful and gentle stretching to improve flexibility, muscle tone and balance. The atmosphere is always calm and relaxed, with time to giggle when my sense of balance fails me! Jeanine is a star and I can't recommend her highly enough.

My weekly sessions of chair yoga with you are a bright spot in my calendar. They help me feel better not only physically but mentally too. Love it Jeanine, has brought a bounce back to my step. Thank you

I find my chair yoga sessions with Jeanine very helpful in relieving tension in my back. She has a very calm and soothing manner, which helps me to relax, and varies the exercises so that the time goes very quickly.

Jeanine is amazing! She is such a wonderful, compassionate yoga teacher. Her classes are incredibly relaxing and empowering. Jeanine personalises each class to suit me and modifies anything that I struggle with. She has been so helpful in creating gentle harmonious classes that benefit my body and mind, taking into account my health issues. I leave her feeling nurtured, powerful and ready to conquer the day! I cannot recommend this lovely woman enough.

After having surgery on my back many years ago, I now have a chronic pain condition which excludes me from taking any form of exercise. So to find Chair Yoga with Jeanine was a blessing. I have been doing chair yoga for a few weeks now and I can certainly feel the benefits. Jeanine has guided me through the sessions with patience and consideration. She has taught me how to relax during the exercises and how to adapt them on my “bad days”. Alongside my regular sessions I am looking forward to working with the videos that Jeanine is personally making for me.

I have had both yoga and several holistic massages with Jeanine. She is bubbly, enthusiastic and so much fun to be with. Her yoga classes are gentle and she always ensures that I am in the correct poses. Her massages are very relaxing and stress relieving for me and I always look forward to my appointment and feel great after my session.

I have had three yoga sessions so far and can honestly feel the benefits. It is great to have a yoga session dedicated to me and my needs as an individual. Each session is tailored especially. Jeanine has helped me to learn relaxation techniques which help me on a daily basis. I feel relaxed yet revitalised after each session. I look forward to yoga each week and highly recommend Jeanine.

Jeanine came to our home to provide a yoga session for me and my two girls aged 4 and 7. The session was relaxing and informative. Jeanine took the time to ensure the girls were in the correct position for each move and throughly explained each movement. We now have a fantastic resource to use at home too. We are looking forward to putting our new techniques into practice. Thank you

Welcome to YOGA & HOLISTICS WITH JEANINE  image
I hope to answer your questions about my style of teaching and how I provide an accessible yoga practice adapted to suit individuals, of all ages and with varied needs. Adaptive yoga is a style of yoga that considers all bodies and abilities. It’s accessible to everyone, and multiple variations are taught, allowing the poses to be adapted to specific needs and abilities.

I hope that as you familarise yourself with the type of teacher I am that you will feel encouraged to contact me and begin your yoga journey.

My inspiration for teaching an adapted yoga practice comes from the adults and children I have had the pleasure of teaching, the training I have had, life's experiences and the continued professional development and learning that has become my passion.

My style of yoga is based on many varied teachings but strongly resonates with a style based on adaptation and appropriate application for all, making yoga accessible to everyone, for every body and for every need. It is a strong part of who I am and my belief that everyone should have the opportunity to practice yoga.

My yoga sessions are welcoming and friendly due to the individual care and attention I give to each of my clients and are often taught in smaller group settings.

Gentle Seated Exercise For All Ages & Abilities

Chair Yoga is a relaxing, flowing yoga practice as well as being an effective form of movement exercise, bringing calmness as well as renewing and energising the mind and body.  This yoga practice is accessible to all ages and abilities.

It is particularly suited to those that may have limited mobility, balance issues, joint stiffness, aches & pains, chronic pain, injuries or in recovery. There may be a moment in life when Chair Yoga is just what you need to encourage gentle movement to the body, building your strength and flexibility and giving you the relaxation and calmness that yoga brings.

Chair Yoga is a style of yoga which is easily adapted to the needs of each student. It can be an entirely seated practice or incorporate standing poses using a chair for support and stability. Depending on the needs and mobility of the individual, Chair Yoga can include other props such as a block, yoga belt or small exercise ball.

The Benefits of Gentle Chair Yoga

Supporting Children & Young People with Special and Additional Needs

yoga for special needs  image
A special need can be a physical, emotional, behavioural, or learning disability or impairment that requires additional or specialised support.

Combining the years of experience as a Specific Learning Difficulties and Special Educational Needs Teacher with my Yoga Teacher qualification is a completely natural and wonderful place that I find myself.

Having the opportunity to share yoga and enjoy the company of wonderful children and adults is an honour and a privilege and an inherent part of my belief that all individuals should have the opportunity to experience the amazing benefits of yoga.

Yoga for special needs is a practice of gentle movement that brings a sense of focus and relaxation to the mind and the body. Using gentle breathing techniques alongside movement to the body through different yoga postures and sequences, settles the nervous system.

When the nervous system is balanced the child or adult can begin to feel a sense of calmness and relaxation, giving the individual the space within the mind and body to build confidence, self-esteem and begin to create new connections and awareness with their environment.

Moving from different yoga postures builds strength, flexibility, and balance and can be used to either calm or energise the mind and body depending on the needs of child or adult. As we move in yoga we create new pathways for the mind and body to connect. These connections give the child or adult new opportunities to develop their own skills as an individual bringing a sense of achievement, self-belief and independence.

The Benefits of Special Yoga:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Improved resilience and immune function
  • Develops the ability to self-regulate and manage transitions
  • Enhanced sense of well-being calm and peace
  • Establishes a calm, organised mental state
  • Develops physical strength, muscle tone, flexibility and balance
  • Creates focus and develops concentration

As a Special Yoga teacher for Autism and ADHD I'm here to discuss all your options and specific requirements and to make yoga work for you.
